The history of Tohatsu's engine production dates back to 1922 when the research and development of a small gasoline engine began, which was a first in Japan. Tohatsu engines have been installed in various products such as motorcycles, fishing boats, snow vehicles, fire pumps, and submersible pumps for worldwide markets. In 1956, Tohatsu produced the first outboard motor in Japan, the ˝OB-2˝, an air-cooled 1.5 horsepower machine. Since then, Tohatsu has steadily increased brand recognition through the development of original marine products such as two-stroke, four-stroke, and TLDI® outboard motors. With 50 years of trusted design and production technologies, Tohatsu strengthens their position as a ˝pioneer of outboard motors˝ by continuing to work toward the development of powerful, low emission engines. Tohatsu TLDI
The TLDI® series are Tohatsu's award winning outboard motors that have an established reputation for being compact in size while demonstrating highly desired features such as low emissions and high fuel economy that are demanded by the new generation of boaters.
They are powered by a direct fuel injection system and a 32 bit ECU (Engine Control Unit). The ECU gives precise fuel injection instructions in accordance to the operating conditions detected by the multiple sensors located on the motor. The TLDI® outboard motors meets all of the 2006 emission regulations stipulated by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and CARB(California Air Resources Board).
MD 115 - TLDI
TLDI® outboards provide the environmental offerings of four-strokes while never compromising the powerful running performance of two-strokes. With its three step adjustable trolling speed control, quick acceleration response, compact size, and fuel economy unlike any other, TLDI® can support a wide range of needs for both the pleasure and commercial boater alike. MD 90/70 - TLDI
Tohatsu offers four outboards from 90 to 40 hp in our highly praised new generation of direct injection outboards. Both the 90 and 70 are much lighter in weight than competitive horsepower 4-strokes and other direct injection outboards. These Tohatsu outboards provide exceptionally smooth operation and outstanding performance.
The 90 and 70 TLDI® provide significant increases in fuel and oil economy while also providing a decrease in hydrocarbon emissions through the exhaust -73% lower levels of HC+NOx. This in turn gives you a cleaner, quieter boat ride at a lower operating cost. And loaded with features usually associated with larger outboards, the 90 and 70 TLDI® aim to please demanding boaters everywhere.
MD 50/40 - TLDI
If you're looking for a mid-range outboard, the Tohatsu 50 and 40 TLDI® are some of the smallest and powerful outboards on the market with air-assisted, direct fuel injection. The TLDI® line of outboards were engineered to provide consumers with the best possible choice for environmentally conscious yet powerful and durable outboards. Tohatsu even won the "Editors' Choice Award" from Motorboating Magazine for this technology! Plus, these outboards are tough and rugged to boot. Tohatsu continues its legacy as the small outboard power leader with these peppy 4-strokes.
MFS 9.8/8 - Four Stroke
Our first priority when developing these engines was to make them lightweight and compact without compromising reliability or the quality performance associated with the Tohatsu brand name. We have maintained the durable standard features that Tohatsu owners appreciate while making fuel-efficient 4-strokes that are easy to transport. These outboards are compact 2-cylinder, SOHC engines that have been manufactured to comply with all US EPA 2006 & CARB 2008 (3-star rating) emission regulations.
MFS 6/5/4 - Four Stroke
Light and compact, designed with proven technology, available in a wide variety of models, greatly reduced vibration for smooth and stable running at all speeds, greatly reduced induction noise for a quieter ride, trim tab reduces steering effort, functioning also as the sacrificial anode that protects as the engine from electrolysis and an ultra low emission, EPA and CARB approved.
MFS 3.5/2.5 - Four Stroke
These new models make their debut for 2006! The powerhead has been tilted 15 degrees to make it compact in size.
The 3.5 hp and 2.5 hp are fully equipped with features essential for portable outboards such as the throttle grip on the steering handle, 360 degree full pivot steering, and an easy-to-use carrying handle.
M 140/120/115/90/70/60/50/40 - Two Stroke
